Replacing the outdated 1960s structure, the new, two-story, state-of-the-art, net-zero energy Furley Elementary School is equipped with modern classrooms, serving nearly 700 Pre-K to 5th-grade students.
The school’s media center also serves as a home to the Weinberg Center in partnership with the Weinberg Foundation. The City of Baltimore's Furley Recreation Center also resides in this new building, equipped with a multipurpose gymnasium, game room, and kitchen.
The new school is Zero-Energy Ready, featuring a geothermal HVAC system and ICF construction.
The dining area serves as the central hub, with the media center, art, music, and dance spaces positioned between the classroom wing and dining area for both school and community use.
Flexible Collaboration
The two-story classroom wing houses four clusters with collaborative spaces designed for flexible, student-centered, and interactive learning. Classrooms are equipped with technology and adaptable furniture to accommodate diverse learning styles and small-group instruction.
The main entry, accessed from a civic plaza, is marked by a canopy that provides visibility and shelter for students and families.
Furley Elementary features grade-appropriate playgrounds, play fields, hardscaped areas, and outdoor learning plazas outside the media, art, and music spaces, maximizing opportunities for outdoor learning, collaboration, and community engagement.
