Reading and Recreation for All!

The new Wheaton Library + Community Recreation Center is a 92,000 sf multi-use facility offering a variety of services all in one location! Patrons of all ages – from children to seniors – enjoy a multi-purpose ballfield, playground area, multi-court gymnasium with elevated track, exercise / game rooms, arts and activities rooms, a multi-purpose social hall, computer lab, reading areas and stacks for books, a used book store and café. The majority of spaces have been combined into shared spaces to integrate recreation and library programs into a lively, community building co-located on both County and M-NCPPC properties.

The facility co-locates the library and the recreation center in a new state-of-the-art building, replacing the outdated facilities that occupied the site separately. By joining the two functions into one multi-use facility with an ample parking garage underneath, the site is able to offer a large green space in the form of a park, playground and natural specimen tree preservation area for community use.
