Leondardtown Wellness + Aquatic Center

College of Southern Maryland

The wellness and aquatic center in Leonardtown, Maryland is the second fitness facility of its type designed by Grimm + Parker Architects for the College of Southern Maryland. This simple structure of brick, glass and cast stone is spatially organized in clear moments defined by an entrance tower, a main circulation path, and generously sized spaces for wellness and fitness.  A six-lane, 25-meter competition pool, a therapy pool, and locker rooms make up the southern half of this 32,000 square foot facility, while fitness, dance, and wellness studios with offices and support spaces make up the northern half of the building.

Grimm + Parker designed the main hall, or “street” to specifically incorporate elements of the building’s exterior into the very heart of the building, thus connecting  every space in the structure with tremendous daylighting, integrated seating, displays, and places for conversation – all highlighted by rich, but still rugged  finishes. Opening in the fall of 2010, the wellness and aquatic center now welcomes students, faculty, and staff as well as St. Mary’s County, Maryland residents.
