Waverly PK-8
Baltimore, MD
The new Waverly PK-8 School will consolidate the existing Waverly Elementary and Middle Schools into a single facility designed to function as an educational, cultural, and recreational activity center for the entire community; open and inviting to break down barriers that limit the potential for all to be successful.
The design of the new building breaks down the academic program into smaller components to address the differing needs of a wide age range of students. In the academic wing, PK-1 grade will be located on the first floor, elementary grades 2-5 will occupy the second floor, and middle school grades 6,7 and 8 will be organized on the third floor. The vertical arrangement allows for separation of the various age groups and provides each with a distinctive identity, yet still linked together into a unified whole.
The school will be designed around 43 teaching stations. Additionally, the school will provide for Music, Art and Physical Educational instruction ,along with Dining and on-site food preparation, Administrative and Guidance Service, Health Services with a school nurse and custodial services on the ground floor. Special education spaces will be located on each floor for easy access for all grade levels.
Waverly PK-8 is being designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.
