Windsor Mill Middle School
Baltimore County, MD
The new Windsor Mill Middle School is 116,000 s.f. and is designed to accommodate up to 720 students in grades 6-8. The core and additions are sized for expansion to 859 students.
The building responds to its\' steep site by being built into the hill. The small difficult site includes forest and wetlands buffers and steep slopes. Site constraints limited the buildable area and drove the design of the building. The three story structure is entered at the middle level, and three academic teams are stacked. The 8th grade cluster is housed on the upper floor, 6th on the main floor and 7th on the lower level. An amphitheater is nestled in the arms of the two wings, seats up to 300.
A Joint use agreement with Parks + Rec provides community use and evening access to the building including the 6460 sq ft gym and activity room of 3000 sq.ft. P+R has their own storage, office and separate entry and night time access control.
