Manchester Valley High School

Carroll County, Maryland

The 217,500 sf Manchester Valley High School is located in the northeastern part of Carroll County, just south of the Town of Manchester.  The school designed to accommodate 1,300 students and is organized in academies:
•   Arts, Humanities, and Communications Academy
•   Business and Information Management Academy
•   Health, Human, and Social Services Academy
•   Math, Science, and Technology Academy

The program also includes a cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, media center, and support spaces.

The main entrance, located between the bus loop and the parking lot, can be easily supervised from the administrative suite, adjacent to the main lobby. The linear corridor allows maximum supervision of the academic wing on each floor.

Classrooms are arranged along the corridor in clusters by academy. Public areas can be closed off from the academic areas, limiting access to the building after school hours.

The building is oriented with the majority of the classrooms facing north and south to maximize energy efficiency.

The development plan includes three parking areas:
•   Teacher/bus parking
•   Parent/visitor parking
•   Student/event parking
