College of Southern Maryland - LaPlata Campus
LaPlata, Maryland
Goals of the Master Plan Study: Develop a cohesive overall design concept for the La Plata Campus that incorporates a variety of landscape typologies; provide expanded and improved pedestrian access, usable open space, and enhanced environmental qualities; minimize pedestrian and vehicular conflicts; develop pedestrian circulation paths for the campus as a whole; locate traffic calming devices along the campus loop road; locate new and convenient parking to support future academic buildings; locate a site for a new 2,500 seat amphitheatre.; connect the FA building to the rest of the campus; and make the south entry feel like a true campus Entrance and not the back door to the campus.
Strategies Implemented in the Study: Apply the defined landscape typologies to the overall plan; develop a legible campus entry that acknowledges the AD building as an important campus icon; develop new hubs/nodes that include connections to existing hubs/nodes; develop existing athletic fields into building and parking locations; use an Addition to the FA building to support future growth and tie it back to the rest of the campus. The addition will also be developed to help make the Southern campus entry feel like a true Campus Entrance.
