Wellness Center, Leonardtown Campus

The wellness center in Leonardtown, Maryland is the second fitness facility of its type designed by Grimm + Parker for the College of Southern Maryland. This simple structure of brick, glass and cast stone is spatially organized in clear moments of entry, path and destination – by the defined archetypes of tower, wall and path.

A six-lane, 25-meter competition pool, a therapy pool, and locker rooms make up the south half of this 32,000 square foot facility, while fitness, yoga, wellness studios with offices, and a resource center make up the northern half of the building.

The main corridor, or “street” connects every space in the structure with ample daylighting, integrated seating, and places for conversation – all highlighted by rich finishes. With an expected completion in the fall of 2009, the College of Southern Maryland will open the wellness center to students, faculty, and staff as well as St. Mary’s County residents.
